In the spirit of Spring Cleaning, Fort Smith will be undergoing a citywide cleanup this Saturday, according to the Sanitation department. Trash bins will be available at four locations, one located in each city ward, for residents to bring household trash for free. These sites will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through April 25.
The locations of the trash bins will be:
Ward 1: Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 3900 block of Grand Avenue in the north parking lot
Ward 2: North 50th and Plum Street, parking lot one block east.
Ward 3: Evans Boys Club (6015 Boys Club Lane)
Ward 4: Goldtrap Gardner Boys Club (8800 S. Dallas Street)
These cleanup sites are open for Fort Smith residents only. Trash volume is limited to one pickup truckload per trip, but multiple trips are possible. Trailers over eight feet long will not be accepted. All regular household trash can be brought to any site, including furniture, carpet, and appliances.
The cleanup sites will not accept toxic waste, car batteries, tires, cleaning chemicals, herbicides, pesticides or liquids of any kind (like paint), or electronic items (computer monitors, towers, printers or accessories). Items listed above can be taken to the landfill (5900 Commerce Road) through the city of Fort Smith’s household hazardous waste program. The sites will also not accept grass, leaves, or brush in compliance with state regulations.
Fort Smith residents are encouraged to bring household waste to any of the sites throughout the week to avoid having to wait in line on busy weekend days. Questions are handled by the Sanitation Department at (479) 784-2350.
